At least one senator thinks that a situation where the President and the Chief Justice are not exactly on the friendliest of terms might do the country good.
“Their not being best friends may be good for the system,” Sen. Francis Escudero said. “The check and balance system will be better if the Chief Justice is not a lapdog of the sitting President.”
Escudero, who helped Aquino in his election campaign, also said it was up to Aquino if he wanted to take his oath before a barangay captain.
“(Aquino) was just being consistent with his declaration before the elections,” Escudero said.
