Aquino weighs options vs GMA's Ombudsman

In March last year, Senator Francis Escudero argued that Gutierrez has only until October to act as Ombudsman since she was only serving the unexpired term of her predecessor, Simeon Marcelo.

Marcelo, who was appointed Ombudsman in October 2002, resigned in November 2005, allegedly due to health reasons. Talks were rife, however, that Marcelo quit because he could no longer tolerate the First Couple’s pressure.

A law school classmate of First Gentleman Jose Miguel "Mike" Arroyo, Gutierrez replaced Marcelo amid suspicions that she was put there to protect the interests of the First Couple.
