Villar pals outnumber Liberals in the Senate

The Liberals would try to beef up their ranks in the Senate to get Drilon elected as Senate president.

Apart from Drilon and incumbent Senator Francis Pangilinan, the LP contingent in the Senate will include Ralph Recto and Serge Osmeña and a newcomer, either Teofisto Guingona III or Risa Hontiveros-Baraquel.

Drilon can also bank on the support of Senator Francis Escudero who sided with Aquino in the presidential race. There is speculation that Escudero will make himself available for the Senate leadership contest but he may eventually give way to his senior colleagues.
